Although entitled Multinational Finance, the aim of this course is less to understand the financial decision making process of firms and more to understand the context within which multinational financial markets evolve.
The various economies and markets of the world have become increasingly integrated so that changes in one part are quickly and in some cases disastrously, transmitted to other parts. Previous views/prejudices on how such transmissions work themselves out across the globe and what the consequences of any particular shock may be need to be reviewed and understood if one is to be effective in managing companies in today's world. In particular, the links between money markets and real markets need to be re-evaluated in order to understand how critical financial magnitudes such as interest rates, exchange rates and related risks can be expected to move as a result of economic variations and government policies to deal with them.
Similarly, there is a need to review how decision making in firms gets modified as the information intensity of the economic system increases. This course will develop this understanding.
